Company Overview
Epoq., the
developer of the Rapidocs technology, was founded in 1998 in the UK
by
Richard and Grahame Cohen,
to provide on-line document automation solutions that would provide
affordable legal services. They were soon
joined in the United States by
Richard S. Granat,
an attorney and founder of
MyLawyer.com, Inc., who has shared the same vision for many
years.

In the U.S.,
Epoq US, Inc., publishes a
group
of specialized legal information web sites powered by Rapidocs technology.
In the U.K., the
DesktopLawyer
web site, published by Epoq,
has become the most trafficked consumer legal services
site. The company is already the
largest provider of
legal services provided through the Internet in the
U.K.
Overview of Rapidocs
Technology
Rapidocs was
conceived as a document assembly system to be used by clients and consumers directly,
transforming legal expertise into a repeatable process and
enabling affordable
access to the legal system. Rapidocs can also be used by any
organization to assemble documents in large volumes.

Dedicated Simplicity and the Rapidocs Single-File Architecture
-
Rapidocs is intelligent document assembly software, designed to offer
the highest standards of user-friendliness, flexibility, and
scalability. This is ensured
by two separate, dedicated programs and the unique single-file architecture of Rapidocs.
Rapidocs Professional - Rapidocs is
Scalable - It is a powerful but very
user-friendly authoring program that simplifies the whole process of creating complex,
interactive document templates. Wizards built into Originator enable the author to quickly
establish variable fields with full validation and annotated help screens and dialog boxes
eliminate the need to write rules for many functions that are ordinarily programmed in
other document assembly system. The ease of use of the authoring system enables Rapidocs authors to support the development of large quantities of complex documents
and forms in a minimum amount of time.

Rapidocs Classic - provides a
straightforward and intuitive process for users: clients, employees, other attorneys in
the your firm, and paralegals, to "fill in the blanks" and make
appropriate choices to generate either a final document, or a draft that can be
further edited in Word. Contextual help can be embedded at every question and every
question can be assigned several levels of validation, making Rapidocs an effective
platform for a document-centric knowledge management system. See

Single-File Architecture that is Word
Processor Independent - A typical approach to web-based document assembly is to build the
system on top of a backend database containing alternative clauses and document
templates. These templates are populated or assembled with data inserted into a form within the web
browser. The form is developed either in .html, .dhtml, or a language like visual
basic.
Rapidocs technology, on the other hand, is based on a single-file architecture which means that the document assembly engine, the document content, and
the logic that assembles the document are all contained in the same individual file. This
single-file architecture enables Rapidocs to have five (5) strategic advantages over
database driven programs:
1. Scalability
A database driven system will require many servers, i.e., a server
farm, when it is necessary to assembly a large number of documents at the same time. Without sufficient processing power, a database system will grind to a halt when many
users seek to assemble a document simultaneously. This
increases the cost of creating a
scalable solution for many environments. Because Rapidocs assembles documents within
the browser using an Active X component at super fast speeds, there is no need to
establish an expensive and mission critical server system. Rapidocs can
assemble and manage thousands of documents simultaneously without any degradation in performance.
2. Collaboration and Workflow Support
The mobility and transferability of Rapidocs files means that
a document can be passed from worker to supervisor, for example, reviewed and amended or
revised before final delivery to the client or end-user. The development process for
creating Rapidocs templates also can be managed as part of a collaborative work-flow
process.
3. Interoperability and Multi-platforms
Because a Rapidocs file is both word-processor independent and
is not dependent on a database platform, it can be sent to another
user as an attachment to an email; it can be delivered on a CD-ROM or floppy disk for
those environments that do not have Internet access, such as a court house.
Delivery is also available via Internet, Extranet, or the Intranet.
4. Security
Rapidocs files are 128-bit encrypted when they are transferred,
making them totally secure. There is virtually no possibility of an unauthorized user
accessing a document within the Rapidocs environment.
5. Document Management
The built-in document management system enables a Rapidocs
file to be treated as an object in either the Rapidocs document management system or
in the document management system of other vendors. This means that Rapidocs files
can be stored and retrieved by individuals with the correct security permissions.
The Power of an Integrated Solution
Rapidocs can provide an enterprise-wide solution to your document automation needs,
particularly in situations where your organization is generating repetitive documents that need to be customized for
individual clients and delivered over the Internet or the Intranet.
